After posting their much joked about job posting seeking someone to protect alien life, a 9-year-old boy's letter blew them away.
As we recently reported, NASA amazed the world with their job posting for a Planetary Protection Officer, which drew headlines claiming – incorrectly – that NASA was seeking someone to save the planet from aliens. They got a pretty amazing response from a 9-year-old boy, and the agency was so impressed they shared the letter with everyone.
As NASA noted, the position of Planetary Protection Officer has been around since the 1960s, and it is more aimed at making sure we don’t contaminate other planets with life forms like bacteria brought from Earth than it is about protecting the Earth from alien invasion. One “Guardian of the Galaxy” decided he was right for the job, and reached out to NASA in a letter expressing interest in the position.
Jack Davis of New Jersey got a letter back from NASA Planetary Science Director Jim Green, who told him to keep studying and working hard so that he could one day join the agency in his endeavors.
“Dear NASA, my name is Jack Davis and I would like to apply for the planetary protection officer job,” Jack said in a letter dated Aug. 3. “I may be nine but I think I would be fit for the job. One of the reasons is my sister says I am an alien also. I have seen almost all the space and alien movies I can see. I have also seen the show, Marvel Agents of shield, and hope to see the movie Men in Black. I am great at video games. I am young, so I can learn to think like an alien. Sincerely, Jack Davis, Guardian of the Galaxy, Fourth Grade.”
