Apple is expected to unveil a number of new products this week, but many are talking about a device that could revolutionize the gaming industry.
Tim Cook’s Apple Inc. is planning to unveil a number of new products in San Francisco this Wednesday, and tech pundits are growing increasingly impatient to see what the company will reveal. According to a report from Business Standard, the company will likely release a new version of its popular device Apple TV.
There was much fanfare surrounding the possible rollout of a streaming Apple TV service that would compete with major cable providers like Comcast or Time Warner, but a new rumor is circulating that the device will offer opportunities for a wide range of new games.
The rumor is certainly uncharacteristic of Apple, whose products aim to streamline data and provide the greatest level of connectivity. Apple TV was traditionally a set-top box that allowed viewers to access content on their TVs over the internet, but the expectation is that the new version will also offer some options for gamers to use as well.
A report from the New York Times reveals that the new Apple TV may not be satisfying for more serious gamers, who would likely still prefer the Xbox or Playstation platforms. The TV may, however, offer a more family-friendly kind of game play, with simpler, less complicated games.
A statement from Jan Dawson, the chief analyst at the tech research firm Jackdaw Research, reveals that the new Apple TV has the potential to “bring casual gaming into the living room and make it a much more social activity.”
Apple has done a good job of keeping its new products under wraps – fans will still have to wait until Wednesday to see what the new product has in store.
