A new report from the climate council warns that drastic action needs to be undertaken to avoid catastrophic effects of climate change.
According to SBS, a recent report from the Climate Council warns that any hope to control climate change necessitates a divestment from fossil fuels and a rapid move to decarbonize the earth.
This report is called “Growing Risks, Critical Choices,” and it was released on Tuesday, August 26. It includes findings which shake the case behind 2°C as a “safe” level of global warming. The Climate Council published a Critical Decade report in 2011, but now they claim that the risks of climate change seem to be much serious now.
According to the most recent report, the scientific case for a 1.5°C limit is more likely than the previous 2°C , which would require “even more urgent action.” This report has raised many concerns, especially because the official emissions targets of many major countries are inconsistent with keeping global warming below 2°C.
As a result of this report, many policy experts and scientists have announced that global warming could turn into a serious and incipient threat to humans. They expressed their concerns at the California Climate Change Symposium that took place in Sacramento.
According to these scientists, it is critically important to form a global agreement to fight climate change.
