Instances of Cricketers Losing Their Cool and Breaking Stumps – Cricketers always strive to bring their best to the table in every game they play, whether representing their franchise or their country. Their ultimate goal is to contribute in a way that leads their team to victory.

However, there are moments when players’ emotions get the better of them due to incorrect umpiring decisions. It is only natural for cricketers, both male and female, to lose their cool when faced with a wrong call.

On some occasions, this frustration has led cricketers to vent their anger by taking it out on the stumps. Here, we highlight three such instances:

#1 Harmanpreet Kaur loses her cool and breaks stumps in an ODI match

In a recent ODI match between India Women and Bangladesh Women, Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur was given out LBW (leg before wicket) while attempting a big sweep shot.

Kaur was visibly upset as she believed the ball had made contact with her bat before hitting her pads. It is worth noting that the ball was eventually caught by a slip fielder, resulting in Kaur being caught out.

However, since the umpire had ruled her out LBW, Kaur expressed her frustration by punching her bat and glaring at the umpire. She even went as far as breaking the stumps.

Harmanpreet Kaur expressed her disappointment with the umpiring standards throughout the series. In a post-match interview, she stated:

“I was disappointed with the umpiring decisions in the entire series.”

#2 Shakib Al Hasan kicks stumps after umpire’s LBW decision

In a Dhaka Premier League match between Mohammedan Sporting Club and Abahani Limited, experienced Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan lost his temper and kicked the stumps at the non-striker’s end.

Shakib became frustrated after the umpire dismissed his LBW appeal against Abahani’s Mushfiqur Rahim.

Following the match, Shakib Al Hasan issued an apology to his fans and followers on his official social media page.

#3 Shakib Al Hasan uproots and throws stumps

Shakib Al Hasan, one of the most successful cricketers in Bangladesh, was visibly furious with the umpiring standards during the Dhaka Premier League 2021.

In the same match between Abahani Limited and Mohammedan Sporting Club, the umpires halted play and instructed the players to leave the field with just one ball remaining in the sixth over.

Unhappy with the umpire’s decision, Shakib uprooted the stumps at the non-striker’s end and threw them to the ground in frustration.
