The ‘Call of Duty’ franchise has just hit a massive milestone after announcing that it sold its 250 millionth copy on Thursday.

Popular video game company Activision has just reached a huge milestone. According to a Tech Times report, the wildly successful Call of Duty video game franchise has finally sold its 250 millionth copy worldwide. The company announced the sales benchmark this Thursday.

The company made the announcement on a blog post yesterday. They attributed the final push past the 250 million units mark to the release of the popular Black Ops 3 installment of the first-person shooter series.

The game was developed by Treyarch, and is the twelfth installment in the Call of Duty series. It won the title of top selling video game in November of last year, beating out the previous installment, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. The game also beat out other huge releases including Fallout 4 and Star Wars: Battlefront in the same month.

The game has only been out in stores for two months, but the numbers are quite impressive. According to research firm NDP Group, Black Ops 3 was crowned the best-selling video game of the entire year after its November release. Scott Lowe, the communications manager for Activison, wrote that Call of Duty has earned the title of top video game franchise in North America for the seventh year in a row.

Activision plans to start off its downloadable content run with the next installment of Treyarch’s Zombies series, “Der Eidenrache.” The new DLC option, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Awakening, will include four new maps named Gauntlet, Splash, Rise, and Skyjacked. The DLC will roll out on PS4 first.
