A new study has determined that a daily dose of turmeric may help ward off Alzheimers as well as improve mood.

An extraordinary new study claims that by eating a daily helping of turmeric, you can not only boost your memory but even give yourself a better mood. The study zeroed in on curcumin, which is found in turmeric and has been shown to have antioxidant as well as anti-inflammatory properties.

Scientists say that it is possible that curcumin is responsible for the low rates of Alzheimer’s disease in India among senior citizens, as curcumin is widely consumed in that country. Researchers are not quite sure how curcumin affects the brain, but it may lower inflammation which can cause Alzheimer’s as well as major depression.

The study examined 40 adults between 50 to 90 years of age who complained of memory problems. Some received the placebo and others got 90 milligrams of curcumin twice each over a year and a half. Scientists found that those who took curcumin had a significant boost in their memory, as well as mild improvements in mood.
