Peyton West, 13, had battled with health problems all his life, and one last picture taken before going to school will be the last one of him.
His name was Peyton West. He was 13 years old, and was standing smiling on the front porch of his house. But unbeknownst to him or his family, it would be the last photo of him. And yet, it still represented a triumph for the brave young warrior in Goshen, Ohio.
That’s because Peyton was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome and had to undergo three open-heart surgeries before he even turned 5. And in March 2017, his health took a turn for the worse, requiring a heart transplant. On Thursday morning, while headed to school with his father after taking the photo, he said he felt that someething was wrong.
After rushing him to Children’s hospital, he passed on at 10:45 a.m. Now, friends and family will be holding a prayer vigil in honor of a boy they described as cheerful and courageous.
“Peyton was truly a joy to everyone’s path he crossed, and our deepest sympathies go out to his family,” Goshen Local Schools superintendent Darrell Edwards said according to a WCPO report.
