Astonishing discovery on Uranus, Neptune floors scientists

Astonishing discovery on Uranus, Neptune floors scientists

Scientists have discovered that diamond rain may be falling on both these giant planets thanks to their bizarre oceans and intense pressures.

A new study published in the journal Nature Astrophysics has come to the amazing conclusion that literal diamonds are raining down on Neptune and Uranus constantly due to the extraordinary nature of these two giant planets in our solar system. Scientists determined that oceans filled with hydrocarbon are forming the gems, which then drop through the ocean onto the solid cores the planets.

Scientists had theorized in the past that because of the extreme pressure on both planets, it’s possible the hydrocarbon was splitting into hydrogen and carbon, and then the pressure was causing the carbon to crystalize into diamonds, which would then fall through the oceans as a sort of “rain” and land on the solid core underneath.

They confirmed that this was possible by using two types of laser to produce shock waves, which they sent through polystrene plastic composed of hydrogen and carbon, and they were successful in creating tiny diamonds in the process.
