Russia has developed a fascinating new robot that acts like a gunslinger, standing like a cowboy and firing guns with both hands.
Russia is proudly showing off its latest technology, a “Russian Roboccop” that is capable of standing with legs akimbo like a cowboy and shooting a gun with both hands. Russian deputy prime minister Dmitry Rogozin tweeted a video of the robot, dubbed “F.E.D.O.R.,” which is embedded at the end of this post.
Despite its frightening appearance and accuracy with deadly weapons, Rogozin insists it’s not meant to be a Terminator-style weapon for future warfare.
“A robot of the F.E.D.O.R. platform has shown skills of shooting with both hands. Work is underway on fine motor skills and decision-making algorithms,” Rogozin tweeted in Russian. “We are not creating a terminator, but artificial intelligence. [The exercises are a way to] teach the machine to instantly set priorities and make decisions.”
Still, it’s not hard to imaging that Vladimir Putin is perfectly fine if everyone is quaking in their boots at this display of technology. They didn’t release video of their supposedly peaceful robot firing a gun in accident, after all.
F.E.D.O.R. stands for Final Experimental Demonstration Object Research, and it is set to go on a solo space mission in 2021, according to an RT report.
Other skills F.E.D.O.R. has demonstrated include the ability to use keys, extinguish a fire, use a saw and welding machine, and drive a car. The robot was initially constructed to replace humans in high-risk jobs, particularly rescue work.
