A food store offering healthy packaged food with more than a dozen locations in Texas has abruptly announced it is closing for good.

A Texas company known for providing packaged nutritious food and snacks will be closing its doors for good, shutting down their stores nationwide starting on Sunday. The company, which is based in Austin, began in 2006 but announced recently they were calling it quits.

The company has gone through some high profile struggles recently. The found of My Fit Foods was charged with possession of a controlled substance after police responded to report of disturbance in downtown Austin back in 2015. A security guard at a hotel there held mario Mendias, the founder of the company, for police who later charged him. Mendias allegedly had a bag of cocaine.

The company has more than a dozen stores in the general Austin area.

My Fit Foods posted the following news release on their website.

“Since 2006, My fit Foods has been on a mission to make healthy eating easy and accessible for everyone. We’ve enjoyed getting ot know you, and we are proud that we have made a difference in many of your lives.

“It is with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of all our stores. We know that you have depended up on us to support your healthy habits, and we are deeply sorry for any inconvenience our closure may have caused you.

“Thank you for your kind support these past years.”

Here’s the statement My Fit Foods issued in 2015 after the arrest of Mendias, as reported by the Austin Business Journal.

“Mr. Mendias maintains only a small minority interest in My Fit Foods and has not been involved in the company’s day-to-day operations for more than a year. The brand is currently led by a seasoned and experienced management team and plans to continue its growth trajectory. As this is an ongoing investigation, we are unable to comment any further at this time.”
