
An alarming report out of Detroit has a lot of people debating about the treatment of one woman.
In a disturbing new report out of Detroit, a huge controversy is brewing after a woman reportedly ended up giving birth in a jail cell. The woman was unable to pay the fine for driving on a suspended license, and so she ended up having to give birth there while she waited for her court date.
Jessica Preston, who gave birth to her son Elijha 9 months ago, told local news outlets recently about her experience in the Macomb County Jail. She asked staff at the jail on that day for medical attention but didn’t receive it for more than eight hours, finally giving birth on a mat on the jail cell floor.
The county sheriff slammed the woman’s claims, claiming that he was totally confident the staff acted well and that Preston was moved to the medical wing immediately upon saying she was having contractions. He said that in order for care to be improve, taxpayers would have to pay more money.
