Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson admitted he didn’t get a scholarship to West Point, but slammed reporters for making it a big issue.
Carson met with reporters in Palm Beach Gardens in Florida to respond after a series of stories questioned an offer of a scholarship to attend the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, according to a TIME report.
He said that the “American people are waking up to your games,” referring to the media, arguing that he was getting uneven coverage from the press.
He often interrupted reporters during the press conference, and said that these questions would only solidify the GOP base.
Carson attempted to shift attention to President Obama, saying that the media did not focus nearly as much attention on Obama during his campaigns. He then began to list some of the things about Obama that have become common tropes of Republicans when they criticize the president: that a friend of his grandfather’s was a communist and that he had ties with the Weather Underground.
