Xbox President Phil Spencer recently stated in an interview with IGN that he expects Sony to drop the price of their Playstation 4 game system relatively soon.
According to an article from Cinema Blend, Xbox President Phil Spencer thinks that the price of the Playstation 4 will soon drop.
During an interview with IGN, the President of Xbox stated his thoughts based on past trends and recent developments during this latest generation console war.
“I fully expect [PlayStation] will drop price. When I think about the playbook they’ve used in the past, we feel good about the plans we have in place going forward in the holiday. If history tells, then we’ll see a price drop from them coming,” Phil Spencer said during the interview.
With the holiday shopping season getting ready to begin, the price drop would encourage parents and gamers alike to possibly pick up a gift for themselves or others.
After three years on the market, the Playstation 4 still is the dominant console. Around this time, with three years under the belt, is when companies will knock off $50 from the price tag to entice consumers to purchase their console.
In addition to this, with major triple A Playstation exclusive titles launching soon, such as the Uncharted collection, coming out within the next year and the highly anticipated The Last Guardian, a game showcased first during the 2009 E3 conference, things would look quite great for Sony.
Xbox President Phil Spencer also has a small amount of evidence to back up his claim coming from Japan. Sony already has the Playstation 4 in Japan selling for $50 less than around the world.
With the Playstation 4 still remaining the number 1 selling console on the market since it’s launch 3 years ago, a price drop would go a long way to help the company retain their standing.
