With so many television shows enjoying reboots these days, The X-Files, Twin Peaks, Full house, it seems as though everything old is new again.
FX is hoping to bank on the circular bend of nostalgia this Thursday when it premieres The Comedians starring none other than Billy Crystal himself.
Crystal will star alongside the young Josh Gad in the mocumentary style series which chronicles the two comedians, playing exaggerated versions of themselves naturally, as they are paired together to star in a late night comedy sketch show.
A show within a show. Prepare for maximum metaness.
The Comedians recently enjoyed its premier in LA where executive producer, Ben Wexler, expressed his elation for working with the legendary comedian.
“When I say it’s a dream come true, it’s literally a dream come true,” said Wexler.
For his part, Crystal seems to be experiencing something of a renaissance, but don’t call it a comeback.
“Some of the great treasures in your life, you find when you’re not looking for something,” said Crystal during the screening.
With so much of television history coming back to life these days The Comedians should fit nicely into America’s television screens. As for Crystal, if his words from the screening are any indication, he is right where he wants to be in his career.
“I want to be in something, at this point in my life and at this point in my career, that can be funny and challenging, and get the best people to make this vision happen and we did.”
The Comedians premieres Thursday, April 9, at 10pm.
