 The new book by Kirstin Downey Frances Perkins is not a name that often comes up in conversation about important feminists of our time, but it should. And today understanding her legacy is vital to our economic health.
Named Secretary of Labor in 1933, she was the first female cabinet member ever appointed, and the scope of the job she took on was truly daunting.
When appointed by Franklin D. Roosevelt, she wanted to take the job, but would only agree if FDR would support her radical views. And needless to say, in 1933, times were hard!

 WNBA Connects aspiring writers with publishers —By Debra Costner The Women’s National book Association (WNBA) held its 6th annual “Meet the Agents & Publishers Event” on March 28 in San Francisco. The idea is actually to introduce aspiring writers to publishers and agents and allow them to pitch an idea and obtain immediate feedback, directly from those in decision-making positions.
The room was crowded with well over 100 women (and a few men) attending the event, held at Sinbad’s Pier 2 Restaurant, along with nine publishers and agents. The agents and publishers each took about 5 minutes to introduce themselves and what they do, along with discussing the kinds of content they’re looking for.

Learning the facets of feminine wisdom

“Looking around the room at all these beautiful faces.”
On a recent Saturday after driving up a winding, narrow road overlooking the hills of Marin, 50 plus women gathered together to connect to their feminine wisdom. It’s a group truly varied, from a couple of teenagers to four women who claimed to be over 71, and women clearly from very diverse backgrounds.
