When Adriana Diaz launched Creative Life Coaching in 2001, she had already been teaching for 30 years, 16 as an adjunct instructor on the college level. Through that work she had also counseled students, facilitated process and focus groups, and empowered students to embrace and enjoy their creativity in many aspects of their lives. She had touched thousands more through her book, Freeing the Creative Spirit, and the workshops she'd conducted internationally based on her process of "Creative Meditation."
"Coaching lets me synthesize my skills and enjoy enriching the lives of others," she says enthusiastically. "When people see creativity as synonymous with art, it remains an untapped resource for fulfillment. The creative process actually gives us a template for living. Coaching allows me to expand the vistas of my clients.
"In life, as in painting, for example, we learn to vary and determine our perspective," continues Diaz. "We develop skills as we grow, becoming wiser through our mistakes. Also, when we come to an impasse, it helps to step back and look at the big picture."
In workshops and trainings Diaz blends the skills of coach and teacher with the finely honed perception of an artist. "I've been an exhibiting artist for 30 years, so I innately watch for visual clues. I even do that on the phone!" she laughs.
Creative Life Coaching is not designed for artists, but is designed to give every client a command of the art of living. "Life is not an idyllic ecstatic state, it is a demanding process. We sometimes forgo immediate happiness for the sake of our ultimate fulfillment: a life that is a rich, intentionally woven tapestry."
With a masters degree in culture and spirituality, Diaz also considers herself a perennial student. "We're all fellow travelers sharing our wisdom and our questions," she says. "Coaching is a relationship about learning. It allows the individual to have an ally, a guide, and a confidante on the journey. I consider it to be a position of trust and honor."
